Freedom in Movement

From time to time most of us experience aches, pains and twinges which restrict our movement. Massage therapy can help to relieve these discomforts and allow greater freedom of movement. Soft tissue therapy is a combination of sport and remedial massage techniques. It is recommended not only to treat injuries but also to maintain healthy muscles, whether you are an athlete, office worker, weekend jogger, suffer from a condition which restricts your movement or just feel in need of some relaxation.

Soft Tissue Therapy promotes Freedom in Movement

Sport & Remedial Massage

Both sport and remedial massage are soft tissue therapies manipulating muscles and easing movement in joints. The techniques used by a therapist depend on the presenting symptoms and the needs of the client.

Sports massage helps to prepare and train effectively for events, to prevent injuries or to heal and recover afterwards. It promotes flexibility, stamina and is recommended for all who take part in sport - from elite performers to those who play sport occasionally.

Remedial massage is a deep soft tissue therapy which aims to treat a specific problem, using a range of techniques to reduce pain and restore freedom of movement.

Examples of conditions which can be addressed with soft tissue work:

  • Headaches, stress and relief of tension

  • Neck pain

  • Reduced shoulder movement

  • Back pain

  • Sciatica

  • Knee pain/stiffness

  • Calf pain

  • Poor posture

  • Foot discomfort

How can a Massage Benefit Me?
Massage helps to:

  • stimulate blood flow to damaged muscles and tissues

  • open pores in tissues so lactic acid can leave & oxygen and nutrients can enter

  • break down scar tissue: this can be useful after an injury, an operation or trauma

  • stretch the tissues to keep them elastic

  • reduce tension, stress, anxiety, pain

  • release endorphins to leave you feeling relaxed

Did You Know?

NHS figures state that musculoskeletal conditions affect 1 in 4 adults.

30% of GP appointments in England relate to these conditions.

For the first time, work-related stress anxiety or depression accounts for over half of all working days lost due to ill health in Great Britain.

In total, 15.4 million working days were lost in 2017/18 as a result of the condition, up from 12.5 million in 2016/17. This equates to 57.3% of the 26.8 million work days lost to ill health according to figures released by the HSE (Health & Safety Executive).

The 4 most common reasons for sickness absence in 2018 were minor illnesses (including coughs and colds), musculoskeletal problems (including back pain and neck and upper limb problems), “other” conditions (including accidents, poisonings and diabetes), and mental health conditions (including stress, depression and anxiety).

All of the above can be aided by regular Soft Tissue Therapy.
